Spain aim to top Group A at the U21 EURO
Cristhian Mosquera, César Tárrega, Javi Guerra and Diego López target victory against Italy
A few months ago, the image of Diego reached the heart of Valencianismo. Standing in the stands at the Bernabeu, with his scarf stretched wide, cheering on Valencia CF in the final minutes despite being surrounded by Real Madrid CF fans, despite being behind and the team already playing with 10 men. It was the steadfastness of a young boy, cheering on the team despite all the difficulties.
This weekend Valencia CF hosts Real Madrid CF at Mestalla and the spirit of Diego and his family is needed more than ever. "We have to keep cheering until the end. When we win a league it's very easy to go there, but now that the team needs it we have to be there" indicates David, his father.
David and Diego had the opportunity a few weeks ago to visit the Ciutat Esportiva de Paterna, attend a training session and receive affection from the players. Especially from Gayà, to whom Diego gave a letter with encouragement for the whole team, and from Mamardashvili and Iago Herrerín, whom Diego tries to emulate playing goalkeeper and took the Basque goalkeeper's gloves as a souvenir.
"My legs are shaking from how nervous I am," acknowledged Diego before taking photos with each of the players. "It has been the best day of my life".
